PETITION TO BE SENT TO THE MINISTER (0.C.) Ohakune, Aug- U. In reply to a communication from, the Ohakune Borough Council the Minister of Finance stated that bank* were at liberty to establish branches in Ohakune, and that no permission is necessary. The council, at its monthly meeting, discussed the inadequacy of the banking facilties in Ohakune (two hours daily), and considered ways and means of remedying the position, which was creating inconvenience t® the business interests of the borough. It was finally resolved that, a petition for presentation to the Minister of Finance be prepared, to be signed by depositors and prospective depositors of the Bank of New Zealand.
