EARLE, who came to Wanganui in 1929 to practice as a dentist, was elected Io the Wanganui City Council in 1938, but resigned shortly after the outbreak of the war to join the Army as a member of the Dental Corps. He was for a time Assistant Director of Dental Services at Army Headquarters in Wellington.

Before lhe war he was a Judge's Associate, first with the Hon. Mr. Justice Smith and then with the Hon. Sir John Reed. He

commenced legal practice in a local firm in 1939, but joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in November of that year and served until his release last November. While at the university he was secretary of various student organisations, including the V.U.C. Debating Society, and was chairman of the Free Discussions Club.
