MYSTERY LOADING OF A CRUISER
PRESS TOLD TO “ASK MR. CHIFLEY ’ Recd 8.40 p.m. Brisbane, July T 5. Official secrecy surrounds the loading of the R.A.N. auxiliary cruiser Manoora, which will leave next week with Dutch stores and equipment, which should have gone in the Dutch ships Bontekoe and Van Outhoorn. Coloured Netherlands military policemen and civilian guards are barring the gates. The only reply pressmen could get came from an Australian officer “Mr. Chifley has sent us on this mission. If you want any information you can ask him.”
It is believed that after the Manoora sails there will be little Dutch equipment in Brisbane. What remains will be loaded on another ship. Three Dutch vessels which broke a tenmonths’ waterside ban by running unaided down the river and out of the harbour, will coal at sea to-morrow and sail empty for Java.
