WANGANUI PRESBYTERY
MEETING AT MARTON The Presbytery of Wanganui met recently in St. Andrew’s Church, Marton. Presbytery passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. J. B. Gerrand, of Palmerston North, a former member of PresbyI tery. The Very Rev. D. D. Scot I, who is supplying the pulpit of Knox Church, Gonville, was welcomed and associated. The Rev. J. Robertson reported on students for the ministry under the care of the Presbytery, with extracts from some of their letters. It was agreed to add the name of Mr. Maurice McLay to the Presbytery’s list of students from the Taranaki Presbytery. Several assembly remits were discussed. Approval was given to a remit on the right of call providing that where a charge pays in stipend and transport allowance not less than £350 this right be granted. It was agreed to add a rider that. Presbyteries should be urged to exercise careiully their function of encouraging congregations to raise the full amount of slipend and car allowance. The Presbytery met in the afternoon at the Turakina Maori Girls’ College for the annual meeting of the college committee, when the Rev. J. Robertson was re-elected chairman and Mr. W. 11. Brown secretary. The next meeting will be held at Palmerston North on August 6.
