NATIONAL PARTY DANCE

The first annual social evening and dance of the Sanson branch of the National Paity held on Tuesday night was an outstanding success. Patronage was distributed from throughout the whole of the district, and amongst those in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Oram, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon and Mr. J. Caithness, the electoral chairman of the Rangitikei Electorate. A professional orchestra provided most pleasing music, the organisation was excellent and the function was altogether most enjoyable. Mr. and Mrs. R. Powell were the winners of the dance competition. PARISHIONERS ST. THOMAS’ CHURCH Rev. N. S. Barnett presided over the annual meeting of parishioners of St. Thomas’ Anglican Church held on Wednesday evening, when there was an excellent attendance. Rev. Burnett reviewed the work accomplished in the parish throughout the year, and stated it was most gratifying to be able to report that attendances generally at the Church services had been good. The finances of the Church were in fair order considering the heavy calis people had been called upon to meet, throughout the war years but now that hostilities had ceased he hoped parishioners would support their church as far as possible. He mentioned with regret the impending departure of Mrs. W. J. Rowan, who had acted so ably for many years as secretary of 'the committee, and expressed his thanks to her and to the committee for the good work they had accomplished. Rev. Barnett also made reference to the voluntary work accomplished, and so freely given by Mrs. S. G. Scandlyn over a number of years in the keeping of the church. It was with sincere regret he learned of Mrs. Scandlyn's resignation from her voluntary work. Several speakers concurred in his remarks, all agreeing that the parish was deeply indebted to her, and her position would be difficult to fill. A small committee was set up to make arrangements for the cleaning of the church. Mr. C. E. Levin was appointed to the position of secretary, to replace Mr. Rowan. Mr. R. Jordan in reporting on repairs required at the church, stated that the most urgent question was that of repairs to the chancel wall to prevent water from entering. A committee consisting of Messrs. R. Jordan, C. E. Levin and E. Wilcock was appointed to inspect the work and report back on the required repairs. At the conclusion of the meeting the Rev. Barnett spoke on the impending departure of Mrs. Rowan, and on behalf of the committee members, asked her to accept a small presentation as an appreciation for her work. Mrs. Rowan suitably responded.
