Sjahrir, with the Minister of Social Affairs, Major-General Socdibjo and some others, were taken from their hotel on Thursday night by armed men. Dr. Soekarno. Indonesian President, .’escribed the abduction as deplorable and declared that measures would be taken against it. Apart from showing the world the weakness of the Repubiean Government. the abdication would favour the Dutch at a moment when negotiations for freedom were in progress. (It has been confirmed officially that abductions have taken place).
