FERTILISER SUPPLIES TO BE INCREASED
Supplies of superphosphate had been increased to 496,650 tons for the year ending May 31, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Roberts, told the inter-provincial eor/erence of Federated Farmers at Wanganui yesterday. Mr. Roberts quoted figures prepared by the Director-Gereral of Agriculture, Mr. E. J. Fawcett, showing that 445.000 lons had been produced for the year ending last M.yv, and that 610,500 tons should be produced next year. This would be an increase on pre-war totals.
An effort had neon made fo secure 50,000 tons of North African phosrhale. but if this had been obtained the ordinary allocation of phosphate rock allowed New Zealand would have been reduced pro rata. How-
ever. arrangements would be completed shortly foi the acquisition of 10,000 tons of Belgian slag. “Supplies for the coming year uprear to be reasonably satisfactory,”
