ON WANGANUI TRACKS

PRINCE DOLOMITE JUMPS BIG FENCES

Wanganui tracks were in good winter order for the semi-final gallops yesterday morning for the winter meeting, but the going was holding, as could be expected at this stage of the season, and times were slower than usual. Several visitors were present, but the majority of the visiting contingent may not arrive until the eve of the meeting. Interest was displayed when the Riccarton-trainedi Prince Dolomite came out to ju.np several of the steeplechase fences on the course proper. Ridden by K. Thomson, who will be his pilot in whatever race he contests at the meeting, the Dolomite gelding cleared four of the obstacles in excellent style but propped at the first of the brush double in front of the stands. He jumped the double at the second attempt, but refused at the double going out of the straight and was not persevered with. Lotto, who is engaged in the June Hurdles on Saturday, was sent over two flights of schooling hurdles on the inside track and then did strong pacework. The only other jumping was done by Rehearsal, who was popped over a couple oi flights and jumped well. He is in the Borough Rack on Saturday, but may be seen out over the battens on the second day.

Lady Charm (G. Ivil), and Mynet (K. Chote) covered a mile and a-quar-ter at three-quarter pace, Mynet finishing clear of his companion over the final stages. Treasure Isle (Chote) came away from Top Drawer (Ivil) in a sprint home from the four-furlong peg, taking 53 for the half-mile. Sketch (T. Howe) and. Rickie (R. Hogg) covered five furlongs in a sha'de under 1.7. Longsword, who may be raced on the second day, and Tomahawk worked separately, both hitting out freely.

Alright took 1.6 for the last five furlongs of his task but was not infusing as much dash as usual into his work. He was ridden by G. Ivil, who will be his pilot in the Empire Handicap. Hulabaloo (R. Burt) and Lexarona (K. Chote) worked strongly and came home ovex* the last two in a shade under 27. Lambro (Miss R. Jackson), and an unnamed Arvakui’ filly (Chote) also ran home from the two-furlong peg in a tick under 26. On Broadway (Miss Jackson) and Master Francis (Chote) covered a circuit at a strong pace, sprintir.V home from the three furlongs. Good pace work was done by Glenfalloch, who may race on Monday, and Behave, wno is in the Borough Hack.
