INCREASE IN CRIME
N.S.W. POLICE REPORT. Sydney, May 22. The New South Wales Police Commissioner, Mr. Mackay, said in his annual report that there had been an increase of more than 14,000 cases of crime in 1945 compared with the previous year. He was disturbed by the increase in offences against persons and against property with violence. He ascribed this to the fact that a certain moral looseness was inseparable from wartime conditions, and to the serious position created by the under-manning of the Police Force.
