SOCIAL A?ND PERSONAL. Mrs. J. WhetUm, of Paekakariki, is visiting her mother, Mrs. A. E. Halligan, mgestre Street.. Miss Nesta G. Innes, Wellington, organising secretary of the British Foreign Bible Society for the central area of the North island, is at present in Wanganui. During her slay in the city Miss Innes will visit the various branches of the Wanganui Auxiliary. She is the guest of Mrs. Q. Allen, Kawatiri Avenue.
Mrs. Natalie John.% wife of Mr. A. C. Johns, Deputy-Mayor of Mount Eden, has died at her residence, Mount Eden. For a AUfnber of years Mrs. Johns was president ol lhe Mount Eden branch ct£ the Plunket Society and a member* of the local committee of the Residential Nursery Association. She was also an energetic worker for patriot! c purposes.
Two Red Indian nurse* who arrived from Canada by the Alonterey on Saturday have commenced maternity training* at St. Helen’s Hospital, Wellington. Martha Soonias/ who is 25, belongs to the Cree tribe, and comes from Alberta and 21-year-oid Doreen Gladstone is from Saskatchewan. The girls intend to return to Canada after they have completed their training course to carry on their wtofr'k among their own people. v “500” Afternoon. '

Film and Radio Work of N.Z. Girl. A young New Zealander who plays the part of Kingsford Smith’s niece in the Australian film “Smithy” is revisiting the Dominion after five years. She is Miss Melisande McNaugnton and is staying with her grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. D. C. Bates, Broklyn. Mrs. McNaughton was wellknown in Wellington before leaving to live in Sydney with her husbana and daughter, as Miss Phyllis Bates, of the dancing school of the same name. Though still in her teens, this ex-Wellingtonian has had considerable stage experience with the Indpeendenl Theatre in Sydney. At present she is a script writer, adapting scripts for one of tne large radio stations there.
