REGULATIONS MAY CHECK HOARDING

"If there is no hoarding and unnecessary running is eliminated, there should be enough petrol available in the future to meet all reasonable demands,” said the Commissioner of Transport, Mr. G. L. Laurenson, today. i There was no reason, he added, why any re-seller should refuse to supply a motorist unless he himself happened to be running short. In that case, another service station would no doubt be able to supply. Except in unusual circumstances, it should be unnecessary for any motorist to obtain petrol in containers. Mr. Laurenson drew attention to

the provisions of the dangerous Goods Regulations relating to the storage of motor spirit. In a dwelling, or an attached outhouse, not more than three gallons can be kept, and it must be in separate vessels, each containing not more than half a pint, securely stopped. In a detached building, not more than 8i gallons can be kept. It must, be in a substantial vessel, securely closed. On a farm of not less than 10 acres, not more than 250 gallons can he kept. It must be in securely closed metal vessels, in a thoroughly ventilated building, at least 40 feet from any other building.
