SOLDIERS’ STRIKE ENDS
ORDNANCE DEPOT AT TRENTHAM MEN WANT THEIR RELEASES (P.A.) Wellington, May 8. A strike at the Army Ordnance Department, Trentham, has ended. After the noon break to-day, the men began to trickle back to their jobs and by 2.30 p.m. a roll-call established that they had all resumed. The strike was called as a protest against their. continued retention in the Army Ordnance Depot at Trenthar«, and some 50 young men struck this morning They joined the Army an average of 18 months ago as overseas reinforcements, and most of them have trades and occupations in civil life to which they wish to return. An “Evening Post” reporter was told that the men were anxious to place their case before the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones). Although those on strike constituted only about a seventh of the total ordnance staff at Trentham, it is understood that the remaining staff indicated their sympathy with the strikers’ attitude.
