KING’S GIFT TO THE SURREY CRICKET CLUB
£lOO,OOO CENTENARY FUND BEING RAISED London, April 23. The King gave £lOO to the Surrey Cricket Club’s centenary fund, which aims to raise £lOO,OOO. The club’s annual report, announcing this, adds that the Duchy of Cornwall had renewed the club’s lease of the Oval. More than 30,000 sods were used to restore the Oval to a playing condition after its use for war purposes and blitzing.
