MAIN HIGHWAY FROM RAETIHI TO OHAKUNE TO BE RECONSTRUCTED

(0.C.) Raetihi, April 18. Plans for reconstructing the unsealed portion of the main highway between Raetihi and Ohakune have been prepared, and it is understood that a start will be made with the work in the near future, though no definite date has vet been decided on. The length of road which requires reconstructing and sealing is about three miles, extending from Raetihi to Makaranui. This represents about one-half of the road to Ohakune, but the rest of thq road is sealed and in good condition. The first half of the road, however, has a metalled surface, and realignment is also necessary in order to bring the highway up to a good standard. Fairly heavy reconstruction work is involved, and the Waimarino County Council will receive a subsidy of £3 for £1 from the Main Highways Board. The Raetihi Borough Council is also interested in the project.
