She carried 8.6 when ' she won the James Memorial at Masterton. Arco has won three races in succession and on his Hawke’s Bay Cup display the Coronach gelding must | be given an excellent chance to ex- . tend his record at Feilding. Battle ! Dance won over this distance at Awapuni and in spite of his failure at i Wanganui he must be expected to run |a better race on his home course. Fort Royal was fifth in the Wanganui Cup, : in which the unlucky Hulabaloo fin«- , ished third, to follow that up with , fourth in the Earle Stakes. Young J Trent ran good races at Hastings but is also engaged in the Onepuhi Hack. 1 Dileas has not struck the form that ' enabled him to win the Thompson Handicap at Trentham. Langue d’Or has done best over a distance of ground, for which , reason he may find it hard to foot it ■ with the sprinters on Saturday. Only two of the Mangaone Handicap acceptors figure in the Halcombe Handicap, run over seven furlongs. They are Aiderman and Autoscore, both of whom would be fancied if started here. Saludos has won over distances from seven furlongs to ten, and has also shown ability to run into a place at two miles. He is not badly placed even at 211 b above the minimum.
