Glasgow, Victoria Avenue, for the Easter holidays. Mrs. H. L. Dustin, Wilson Street, left this week for Gisborne to visit her daughter, Mrs. S. Bruce. Miss Marjorie Mitchell, Trentham, is spending Easter at her home, Somme Parade, Upper Aramoho. Mrs. H. Strauchon. Cambridge Street, left yesterday to spend a few days at New Plymouth. Mrs H. Jones and Miss Marjorie Jones, St. John’s Hill, left on Thursday for Auckland. Miss Ruth Duffus, of the nursing staff of the Pahiatua Polish Camp, has been the guest of Miss Linda White, College Street. Miss Alice McPhail, Wellington, and Miss Barbara McPhail, Ashhurst, are spending the Easter holiday with their parents on St. John’s Hill. Mrs. John Giblin, Waipukurau, is spending Easter with her mother, Mrs A. H. Collins, “Letham,” No. 1 Line. Miss Alice Uttley, Gonville Avenue, is visiting Auckland for Easter and is staying with her aunt, Mrs. A. C. Dickinson. Mrs. W. L. Clarke, Sydney, Australia, formerly of Wanganui, is visiting her aunt, Miss Stanford, Wicksteed Street. Mrs. Nino Marotta, Wellington, is an Easter visitor to Wanganui as the guest of her mother, Mrs. L. J. Webb Jones, Gonville. Miss Neilson, of Hamilton, will be visiting Wanganui and Taranaki for Easter. Miss Cherry Dunn, of Wellington, is spending the Easter holidays in Wanganui as the guest of Miss Joyce Patterson, Ingestre Street. Mrs. T. Blyth, Dannevirke, is visiting Wanganui for Easter week-end as the guest of Mrs. H. Doig, College Street. Mrs. Brian Potts, who with her husband has been on an extensive tour of the South Island, visiting the Sounds, Christchurch, Oamaru and Dunedin, has returned to Wanganui. ENGAGEMENT. Rivers—Wilson.—The engagement has been announced between Nancy Joy eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Wilson Cambridge Street, Wanganui, to Kenneth Edward Charles, only son of Mr. and Mrs. K. R. Rivers, Copeland Street, Wanganui. HITHER AND THITHER. Fancy Dress Party. Pakeha and Maori families attended in strength when the Koriniti School staged its annual social event last Friday. This year instead of the usual school concert a fancy dress party was held and items given by the children which were a credit to their teachers, Mr. an Mrs. V. Warren. Songs were also sung by Mrs. Rangi Williams and Mrs. T’ Here. The judges, Mesdames A. Richter (Wellington) and F. Spurdie (Wanganui) had a difficult task in choosing the best girl and decided to award special prizes in this class. Eunice Ngatoa, Maor s maid, and V. Flood, Maori w; trior, were the best dressed girl and boy and Lorna Chadwick, “Waltzing Matilda,” and B. Tuka, sundowner, the funniest girl aid boy. Sister Elsie Smith camp first in the “after school” cirss and Peggy Ponga, witch, and Edna Pokiha, Maori maid. were awarded the special prizes. The school committee. Mesdames C. Marshall. R. Oxley, R. Pokiha, G. Flood and T. Butler, ably assisted Mr. and Mrs. Warren.

Library Appointments. Mention was made in the quarterly report of the Public Librarian, Miss A. M. Blackett, to the Wanganui City Council on Wednesday night, of three recent appointments. These are Miss P. Currie, Miss G. Foster and Miss P. Tustin. Miss Tustin was seconded by the Country Library Service and spent three weeks at headquarters for a quick course of instruction before commencing duties. Easter Food Offering.

Special Easter offering of food for Britain was well contributed to by the put lie at Wednesday’s street appeal. Stalls laden with food donated by the staffs of the firms outside which they were situated made an attractive picture with colourful posters by pupils of the Wanganui Girls’ College illustrating the need for the appeal. A specially notable donation was that of Felt and Textiles Ltd.,—tinned

goods to the value of £l3 10s. This firm also supplied its own illustrative poster.

PRE-WEDDING PARTIES Because of her approaching marriage, Miss Lorraine Young, Wanganui, has been entertained at a number of enjoyable parties. Miss Margaret Hanson. Carlton Avenue, arranged a “kitchen" gift afternoon at which the guests enjoyed several novel and original competitions. Mrs. D. G. Strachan, Li fill on Street, gave a gift afternoon. Competit.ons were solved and Miss Margaret Sidey contributed elocutionary items. O.ther partied at which competitions and games formed the entertainment were arranged by Miss Nancy Thurston, Gonville, who gave a gift evening, and Mrs. E. A. S ddall. of Westmere and Miss Phyllis Drummond, who were joint hostesses at a gif I evening given at the latter’s home on St. John’s Hill. Al a “pantry” evening given by Miss Ruth Ashcroft, Parkes Avenue, flag “500" and competitions formed the entertainment. Mrs. Norrnan Smith, of Fordell, entertained the bride-to-be and friends at afternoon tea at the D.I.C. Many lovely and useful presents were received by the guest of honour at the various parties. WEDDING OF MISS NORA WALTON The wedding of Miss Nora Walton, ladv in waiting to Her Excellency, Lady Newall, and Mr. George Patrick Donnelly, of Hastings, took place at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul. Wellington, on Wednesday. His Excellency, the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall. escorted the bride, and Lady Newall was present. Their Excellencies’ daughters, the Misses Georgina and Diana Newall; were the bridesmaids. Tin* wedding took place on the eve of Sir Cyril and Ladv ; Newall’s departure from New Zealand. The rerepton was held at - Governmerit House. I The wedding created a great deal of interest, hundreds of people tilling the church, and crowding the entrance. Mr. and Mrs. Donnelly will make their home at Havelock North, where they have taken a house. This is only the second time that a member of the Government House staff has been married in the Dominion. During the term of Lord Blodislon as Governor-General a member of his staff. Lieutenant (now Commander) Rodnev Thomson R.N.. was married Io a Wellington girl. Miss Ails? Nelson, at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul.
