TEXTILE PRODUCTION
SHORTAGE OF FEMALE LABOUR. Canberra, April 16. Only 2J per cent, of Australia’s production of woollen and worsted textiles was being exported, and this was to retain an interest in the Commonwealth’s overseas markets, said the Acting Minister of Customs (Mr. Dedman). He termed as ridiculous the suggestion that becrj .e the textiles were being exported coupon rating on similar goods in Australia should be lifted. Even if the small amount being exported were retained, it would still be necessary to have coupon rating, said the Minister. If only they could get some necessary female labour into the textile industry it would be possible to see some daylight.
