POWER TO BE CUT DOWN FROM TO-DAY
Further drastic cuts in electricity were announced last night by the engineer of the Wanganui-Rangitikei ElectricPower Board, Mr. H. Webb, who said that he had received instructions from Wellington that the load carried in the board’s area would have to be dropped 20 per cent, as compared with the same period last year.
As a result, all power will be cut off in country and suburban areas of the board’s district from 3 to 3.30 £.m. daily as from to-day until further notice. This time has been decided on so as not to interfere with production in the country areas. In the business area of Wanganui the power will be cut between 5 and 5.30 p.m. “To achieve the full 20 per cent, cut in power asked for, it may be necessary to apply further cuts during the morning also,” said Mr. Webb, in stressing the seriousness of the power situation last night.
