EDUCATION BOARD ARCHITECT

APPOINTMENT OF MR. L. S. BARSANTI

The Wanganui Education Board, at its meeting yesterday, appointed Mr. L. S. Barsanti as acting architect to replace Mr. E. R. Hodge, who commenced six months’ retiring lerZe at the beginning of April. Mr. Bar-anti joined the architect's staff on the Wanganui Education Board in 1937, after some fifteen years’ practical experience in building and contracting. On joining the board’s service he commenced study for the professional examinations of the N.Z. Institute of Architects, but his course was interrupted by his entry into the armed forces early in 1942. Mr. Barsanti returned to his duties with the board on his discharge at the beginning of 1946 and immediately resumed his examination course. While in the Middle East Mr. Barsanti took the opportunity to study ancient and modern Continental styles of architecture.

Fifteen, applications, from all parts of New Zealand, were received by the board, and before Mr. Barsanti was appointed three of the applicants were personally interviewed.
