No announcement as to his successor has been made yet. Mr. L. E. Taylor, of Christchurch, was appointed assistant town clerk by the Hawera Borough Council at its meeting on Monday. Mr. Taylor, who is a returned serviceman of live years’ service, has served with the Amuri and Ashburton County Councils.

Mr. W. B. Tennent, Palmerston North, district Governor of Rotary, and a member of the Wanganui Education Board, was granted leave of absence up to the end of August by the board yesterday to enable him to visit the United States for the Rotary International Conference.
