SOCIAL SECURITY STAMPS
USE IS RESTRICTED (p a ) Wellington, April 11. An amendment to the Social Security Contribution Regulations, gazetted to-night, will restrict the use of Social Security stamps for the purpose of accounting for wages tax deducted by an employer from salaries or wages. The restriction is also applied to wages tax on any other income, which is liable for the deduction of the Social Security charge, and National Security tax,' at its source.
As from Mav 1. 1946, wages tax payments of £2 or over may not be denoted by Social Security stamps, but must be paid in by cheque or cash, and an official receipt obtained. For payments under £2 Social Security stamps may still be used. In all cases where the wages tax payab’e is £2 or over, employers are reau'red to complete a form provided for the purpose and present it, signed bv the employer or his agent or responsible employee. with the payment of th* 1 wages tax due. either at a money order post office or at a branch ofl’ce of the Land and Income Tax Department, where a receipt for the amount paid will be issued. The necessary forms are obtaniablo at all money order offices. or anv branch of the L°nd Income Tax DeDa r lment. I f it is desired tn keen separate recons for office and out r 'de staffs, or different departments of a business, the wages tax payable for e< n 'ffi department should be summarised, and one form presented tn cover the total wpivrs t-’X for all departments. A cony of Hip «ummary should be retained by the
employer and a receipt attaches thereto, to enable easy identification of nayment with the various wage records. which should be retained for • period of at least live years.
