FOOTBALL CLUB ENTHUSIASTIC ANNUAL MEETING i I (0.C.) Hunterville, March 9. I Over 40 members attended the anj nual meeting of the Hunterville Football Club on Thursday evening and the enthusiasm displayed augurs well for the coming season. Last year the Rangitikel senior championship was annexed, while the thirds were runners-up in that and a check up on players available this year shows that a strong junior team can also be nominated.
Mr. A. Henwood presided and prior to business being transacted a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late S. R. MqAlley was carried In silence. Mr. McAlley had been a vicepresident of the club and a strong supporter for many years. Mr. Hen wood reported on the year’s activities and congratulated players on the success achieved. He welcomed new members who had recently returned from overseas. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £62 9s lid. which included a free-of-interest loan to the Government of £5O to assist the war effort. EXECUTIVE Many receommendations of interest will be placed before the annual meeting of the Hunterville branch of the R.S.A. as the result of an executive meeting held on Thursday evening. The recommendations are: (1) That the annual reunion this year take the form of a welcome home to members who served in the present war. these members to be the guests of the branch on that night. (2) That an R.S.A. ball be held in the Town Hall on a suitable date In June, the catering to be let so that the ladies who had worked so hard during the war could enjoy the hospitality of the branch. (3) That the “Dawn Parade” be held as usual on Anzac Day, the service on this occasion to be conducted entirely by members of the 2nd. N.Z.E.F. (4) That for the public service on the afternoon of Anzac Day the local authority be asked to arrange a parade, headed by rhe pine band, of returned servicemen. Girl Guides, Boy Scouts and other organisations. (5) That a church parade to the Presbyterian Church be held on the evening of April 28. The secretary reported that the membershin now totalled 148, which included 100 from the recent war. • It was decided to vote £2 2s to the Cemeterv Board. A motion of .sympathy with Mr. C. Campbell in the death of his wife was carried in silence. The annual meeting was fixed for Saturday. March 23, in the Scots’ Hall, at 7.30 p.m.
The meeting was presided over by Mr. R. M. S Jones and there were also present. Rev. W. L. Low. Messrs. A. Bull. K Hammond, W. Williams, A. Carswell, H. ,T. Tod. C. N. Wallis, S. B. Abel, and W. C. Smith (secretary). RATA FOOTBALL CLUB In the report of the annual meeting of the Rata Football Club an error appeared in the list of officers elected. Mr. J. Gibbs was named as patron, whereas he is the new president of the club. The patron is Mr. Lloyd Hammond, a strong supporter of the club and for some years he was president of the Rangitikei Union. The club has all arrangements complete for its opening-of-season dance; to be held on Thursday, March 21, in the Memorial Hall.
