NEW WHITEBAIT SEASON IN MANAWATU
(0.C.) Sanson, March 9. Extension of the closing of the whitebait season in the Manawatu River from November 15 to December 1 has been agreed to by the Marine Department. The new season will open on August 1, giving an extra 15 days at the end of ihe season. It is hoped that the change will ensure that some of the run of whitebait will find its way Up the river unmolested. The change has been made as a result of representations made to Ihe Inspector of Fisheries during, the last whitebait season. It was pointed out that for some time the whitebait had not run in the Manawatu River to any appreciable extent until, after the closing date, November 15.
