WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ELECTS OFFICERS (0.C.) Mangaweka, March 6. The annual meeting of the Women's Institute, Mangaweka branch, took nlace yesterday afternoon, there being a good attendance of members, whilst Mrs. I. Mclntyre was in the chair. The annual report showed that, the year had been a most successful one, whilst the balance-sheet showed the healthy state of the branch’s finances. During the election of officers, Mrs. C. J. G. Samuda took the chair. Mrs. Mclntyre was re-elected president. Twelve members were also elected to the committee. In thanking members for their confidence in her, the president said she hoped that there would be new ideas as well as new members in the forthcoming year. Mrs. T. Pairman thanked all the officers for the year’s work and presented each with a spray. Mrs. H. Philps, a valued member who is leaving the district for the Waikato, was also present'd' with a gift and a spray, and members wished her every success in her new heme. A letter of thanks from the Wanganui Red Cross Centre was read, thanking members for the cheque of £7 14s 6d. this sum having been raised by carol singing at Christmas time. This money was sent towards the "Food for Britain ’ appeal. The "Golden Thread” for the day was "Health." the motto was by Mrs. H. Waymouth, and the roll call was on health hints. Mr. C. Crisp gave an interesting talk on how to deal with every day accidents in the home. There were four competitions, the winners being: Vegetable, Mrs D. Burrell 1, Mrs. R. Dixon 2, Mrs. I. McIntyre 3; premier flower, Mrs. McIntyre 1. Mrs. Pairman 2. Mrs. Burrell 3: bran biscuits. Mrs. Dixon 1, Mrs. T. Hammond 2. Mrs. E. Hammond 3. In the best gladiolus, Mrs. T. Hammond was the only entrant. A very pleasant afternoon was brought to a close with afternoon tea and the singing of the National Anthem.
