DOMINION WHEAT CROP

DECLINE ON PREVIOUS SEASON (P A.) Wellington, Feb. 14. The following estimated averaged yield per acre of wheat, oats and barlye (in that order) for the season 1945-46, have been compiled from reports furnished by officers of the Department of Agriculture throughout the Dominion, stales to-night’s Gazette (all in bushels per acre);— North Island: Wheat, 38; oats, 41; barley, 49. Marlborough: 33, 38, 39. NcLon: 30, 34, 35. Canterbury: 41, 42, 45. Otago: 40, 52, 40. Southland: 48, 59, 3S. The estimated average for the whole of the Dominion is: 33, 48, 43. The above estimates may be compared with last season's actual average yields, which were: Wheat, 38.02; oats, 54.18; barley, 37.11. In accordance with the above estimates, the total yield of wheat for the season should be approximately 5,400,000 bushels, as against an ascertained yield of 6,992,204 bushels for last season. Assuming that the usual average area of oats will be threshed this year, the total yield of grain would* be approximately 2,400,000 bushels, compared with a yield of 4,209,143 bushel last season. On a similar assumption regarding barley, the total yield should approximate 2,100,000 bushels, compared with a yield of 1,384.957 bushels last season.
