SOCIAL AND PERSONAL.
Her Excellency, Lady Newall, who is patroness of the National Council of Women of New Zealand, will attend a reception given by Iho Hamilton branch of the council in Hamilton on Saturday. Mrs. 11. M. Wills, who has been on a visit to Wanganui, has returned to Hawera.
Mrs. George Nelson, St. Hill Street, has returned home after several weeks spent in Rotorua. Cpl. Vivienne Wright, who has been spending her leave with her mother, Durie Hill, has returned to Wellington.
Miss Elizabeth ("Bunty") Day, Hamilton, who has been granted a scholarship by the Australian College of Physical Education, is the only New Zealand girl to hold a scholarship this year. Miss Day, who has sailed lor Sydney, will study for two years at lhe well-known Swords Club.
The death has' occurred of Miss Alice Crabtree at her home in Brooklyn. Her family came to Wellington from Tasmania 'cl years ago. During the epidemic of 1918, Miss Crabtree became known in Brooklyn as the ‘Angel of Mercy.” She was closely associated with the Methodist Church and was pres.dent of the Dr. Barnardo’s Homes Society. As a member of the Navy League during the recent war Miss Crabtree was a generous contributor to the work of the New Zealand Navy League War Council.
A bursary which will enable him to study ballet in London has been granted by the Rehabilitation Department to Mr. Harold Robinson, of Dunedin. Mr. Robinson, who is aged 25 years, will enter the ballet school at Sadler's. Wells, the home English ballet, under the direction of Ninette de Valois. He intends to make a further study of the Royal Academy of Dancing technique, as well as mime, make-up, choreography, decor and the teaching of dancing. On the completion of his studies he intends to return to New Zealand. For the last few years he has been with entertainment units of the services in the Pacific and in Egypt. ENGAGEMENTS. Byers—Duiidon.— The engagement is announced of Pearl Jean Nathan, only daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. P. Dundon, to John Edward, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Byers, Gonville. Orton—Masterson.— The engagement is announced of Judith Speedy, younger daughter of Mr. and iurs. J. L. Masterson, Te Moe, Havelock North to David Robert, eldest son of Mrs. C. M. Orton and the late Mr. R. W. Orton, Wanganui.
