CRICKET MATCHES (0.C.) HunterviUe, Jan. 23. The Hunlerville cricket team continued on its winning way at the week-end defeating Army in a Northern Rangitikei competition match at Utiku.

Hunterville batted first and declared with eight wickets down for 141 (Atkins 39, Duncan 37, Darvill 20, Gibbons 13, Finney 10). Strange took two wickets for 23, Challis two for 40, and Wilson two for 42.

Army were dismissed for 105 (Gannett 28, Nielson 21, Wilson 19). binney took five wickets for 52 and Duncan four for 22.

Finney has struck excellent form as a bowler and in recent matches he has been leading the Hunterville attack to some purpose. In the last match against Mangaweka he took four wickets for 18 runs (all clean bowled) and in the following week against Utiku, he took six wickets for 150. Against. Colts, he captured four for 38, and followed it up in the second innings vvTth seven for 28. His performance with the bat has been meritorious too. Against Taihape, he made 43 (retired), while the following week, against NTangaweka, he knocked up 30. He did not do so well against Utiku, but against Colts he was undefeated with 63 to his credit.

A recent acquisition to the local team is Jack Duncan, who now has business interests in Hunterville. Prior to going overseas he played for Marton Old Boys. He knocked up 21 against Colts and followed that up last, week-end with a nice 37 against. Army. Given his first try-out with the ball in Ihe latter match he took four wickets at a cost of 22 runs. PUKEKOA SPORTS. One of the most popular country sports meetings held on the West Coast is undoubtedly the fixture organised by the Pukeroa Sports Club (near Hunterville). The enterprise of the committee in offering attractive prizes in a programme that caters for all sections of the community, draws entries from far and near and this year's sports, which take place on Saturday, promise to set new records. The events are slav'd in an attractive setting and the grounds are ideal for picnic parties. It. goes without saying that there will be all the fun of the fair at, Pukeroa on Saturday. RATA MARAE COMMITTEE To fittingly welcome homo distriel members of the Maori Battalion Ihe Marae Committee al. Rata is holding a dance in the Memorial Hall on Friday. February 1. A preliminary announcement has already appeared in the "Chronicle," so that the date for this big event will be kept free.
