FUTURE OF SARAWAK
RAJAH’S NEPHEW PROTESTS London, Jan. 21. Mr. Anthony Brooke, Raja-Muda of Sarawak, said lie would fight “tooth and nail” the proposal to make Sarawak a Crown Colony before the people were consulted under their own Constitution. He said Sarawak was not British. It would be an anachronism if it were reduced iron* the status of a sovereign, independent State to a Crown Colony. Mr. Anthony Brooke was head of the provisional Government which was dismissed from office last October without explanation, he is a nephew of the White Rajah (Sir Charles Vyner Brooke).
It was reported yesterday that Sarawak was to become part of the British Empire and that an agreement had been reached between Sir Charles Vyner Brooke, Rajah of Sarawak, and the Colonial Office.
