R.N.Z.A.F. COMMANDER IN LONDON RETURNS
AIR-COMMODORE CALDWELL (P.A.) Auckland, Jan. 22. The former officer commanding the Royal New Zealand Air Force Headquarters in London, Air-Commodore K. L. Caldwell, returned to New Zealand by Tasman Empire Airways fly-ing-boat to-day. He took over his duties last May, in succession to the late Air-Commodore E. G. Olson, and relinquished the command last December.
Air-Commodore Caldwell, whose home is in Cambridge, has an outstanding record of leadership and personal gallantry. He was a fightersquadron commander in the first World War and he retained his interest in the service and in flying during the period between the two wars. During the second World War he waa commanding officer at Wigram and Woodbourne Air Force stations.
After serving in New Zealand, AirCommodore Caldwell went to India, where he reconstituted the R.N.Z.A.F. liaison office before taking up his London appointment. He visited New Zealanders serving with R.A.F. squadrons in India and, when on his way to Britain, he paid a visit to the Middle East.
