N.Z. STRAWBERRIES IN LONDON

PRIME MINISTER'S TREAT FOR SICK CHILDREN (Official News Service.) London, Jan. 13. Young patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children enjoyed an exciting and unexpected treat this evening—fresh strawberries flown 13,0UU miles from New Zealand. A crate of eight boxes ol the fruit, well out of season in this country, was delivered to the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, in London last evening, onlyfour days out of Auckland. It was the gift of Mr. Harvey Turner, head ol a well-known Auckland marketing firm, who sent the fruit by air across the Tasman on January 9 to connect with a Lancastrian leaving for England on its regular run from Australia. The strawberries arrived in remarkably good condition except for one box, from which the cellophane wrapper had become dislodged. Mr. Fraser decided to pass on the rema ning seven boxes to wcjc London children, and with Mr. Campbell, acting High Commissioner, went to Great Ormond Street Hospital to-day to deliver them personally. The Prime Minister was met there by some of the senior members of the staff, including a New Zealander, Mr. K. A. Ross, from Dunedin, who is surgical registrar, and the secretary, Mr. H. F. Rutherford. The first taste was enjoyed by a little boy, Eric Howard, into whose impatient mouth Mr. Fraser himself popped a ripe strawberry. The Prime Minister then passed .samples of the fruit around some ol the other children.
