A. AND P. ASSOCIATION APPOINTMENT OF STEWARDS At the Marton A. and P. Association’s show in 1945 members of the Marlon, Bulls and Hunterville Young Farmers’ Club rendered valuable assistance as assistant stewards, and at the invitation of the A. and P. Association the Young Farmers’ Clubs have appointed the following to assist at the association’s show to be held on the Marton racecourse on Wednesday, January 30: — Horses and ponies: J. A. Lampp. G. E. Lampp, and W. B. Gray. Jerseys: M. F. Gray. Aberdeen Angus: H. R. Miller. Romneys: D. M. Morrison, J. M. C. Shield; natural condition, K. H. Smith and D. S. Gordon. Southdown: A. L. Vile and G. E. Gordon; natural condition, A. H. Nitschke and W. E. Shield. Fat lambs: D. R. McFarlane and J. A. Caithness. Intending exhibitors are reminded that entries for all horses, ponies, cattle, sheep, lambs and pigs close on Monday, January 21, and for vegetables on the morning of the show. Schedules may be obtained on application to the show secretary, P.O. Box 3, Marton. MARTON BOWLING CLUB The next round of the full rink competition will be played next Saturday, January 19. Names are to be in by 1.45 p.m. RAILWAY CRICKET COMPETITION. THE RUSSELL SHIELD.
In the first game of the Russell Shield competition played at Taihape, Marlon Railway played Taihape Railway and were successful in defeating the local team on the first innings by 136 runs to 114. GEORGE WHITE The death occurred recently of an old resident of Marton, Mr. George White, formerly of Signal Street, Mr. White, who was 71 years of age, came to New Zealand as a child, from England, and with his family settled in the Wairarapa, later moving to Wellington and the Waikato, before coming to Marton, where he lived for about 15 years. Mr. White was a South African war veteran.
Preceding the graveside ceremony at Mt. View Cemetery on Saturday, a short service was held in the St. Stephen’s Church. Mr. White leaves six childien, Messrs. E. White and R. White (Marton), G. White (Waverley), and Mesdames H. Kingdon (Rotorua), J. Poutama (Kakariki), and W. Rewiti (Marton, and 12 grandchildren. GENERAL NEWS. Mr. W. Twigg notifies that his hairdre sing saloon in Broadway is now open under the supervision of a firstclass hairdresser.
