NUFFIELD RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

AWARDED TO DEVONPORT MAN (P.A.) Auckland. Jan. 14. Advice ha; been received in Auckland that Mr. D. Walkr, M.Sc., formerly of Devonport. has been awarded a Nuffield research fellowship in physics at Birmingham University. Mr. Walker took his degree with honours in physics at Auckland University College. He did research work on solar radiation before the war and during the early days of the war took up work on accoustics under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research at Auckland University College. He directed development work Jon the under-water defences of Auckland and maintenance for the naval base. In 1943 Mr. Walker was sent to the United States on a Government mission on anti-submarine work, and in the folowing year he porceeded to Scotland at the instance of the New Zealand Government in connection with similar work. Now that war development work has ended he Intends to undertake research on the nuclear physics under Professor Oliphant at Birmingham, and has been awarded a Nuffield fellowship for this purpose
