FIELDS FOR TRENTHAM OPENING DAY

(Special) Wellington, Jan. 10. When acceptances were taken this afternoon for the opening day of the Wellington Racing Clubs summer meeting, to be held on January 19, 22 and 26. there were 20 of the original 36 left in the Wellington Cup, 18 in the Telegraph Handicap and 19 in the Anniversary Handicap, the open mile. The only event in which acceptors exceeded the safety number was the Ruapehu Hack, a mile race, the 33 acceptors being three in excess of the safety number. Court Judge, Dash o’ Dink and Barrage were eliminated, but all three claim other engagements, Court Judge and Dash o’ Dink in the Te Marua Highweight and Barrage in the Apprentices’ Hack Handicap. As was expected. Kindergarten’s engagement in the Wellington Cup was not continued, the champion having served his owner s purpose in keeping Golden Souvenir’s weight down. United Nations, Mr. E. N. Fitzgerald’s other entry, was also a defection. Piccolo, Royal Lancer, Alethea, Rink, Caithness. Hormuz, Beau Dink. Delinquent Indian Gold, Lad'- Sniral, Silver Robe and Night Robe were the others to drop out. Irish Note was paid up for in the Cup but dropped out of the Telegraph Handicap. Piccolo, Deprive, Blue Bonny, Big Money, Duplicity and Roman Duke were the other defections from the big sprint Including the 16 in the Wellington Stakes, there are 138 acceptors for the eight events on Saturday week, as follows:
