AUSTRALIAN MEMBER WILL BE LATE
APPOINTMENT WAS DELAYED Reed. 7.50 p.m. Canberra, Jan. 10 The Minister for the Navy, Mr. Makin, is now en route for London by plane, and is expected to arrive thcic on Saturday. The Prime Minister, Mr. Chifley, refused to make a decision on the Aus ralian Ministerial representation, at the United Nations Organisation conference in London unfl he had consulted the Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Evatt. A decision was made within 24 hours of Dr. Evatt’s return to Australia. The delay has already caused disappointment and criticism, both in Au tralia and Britain. In any case, Mr. Makin will miss the opening of lhe General Assembly. Dr. Evatt would have attended the inaugural meeting in London himself, ’nut for the fact that the Government needed him urgently in Australia for consultations of the High Court affecting social service payments and proposal tc nationalise inter-State air lines.
