N.Z. POST-WAR PLANS

INTERNATIONAL OBLIGATIONS NOT YET KNOWN (P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 10. The announcement of post-war defence plans for New Zealand is eagerly awaited within the services, but it is unlikely an oflicial statement will be made for some time. Among the major questions involved are the size of the forces to be retained, and the degree, if any, of compulsory service to be maintained.

The Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, when he was asked to-day about the Government’s policy, said that until the Dominion's international obligations were determined, it would not be possible to make a final decision. The whole question of defence pol.cy was involved in the Dominion’s internjational commitments, and it would be a while yet before that aspect could be settled.
