QUEEN CARNIVAL

The committee supporting the Turakina Queen, in connection with the Queen Carnival, are busily engaged in promoting enteJainmeait in support of their Queen, and have organised two functions in the near future. The first will be a dance to be held ia the Victory Hall, Marton, on Tuesday, January 15, when the committee promise a grand time for

ail, with the added attraction of a £ Is prize for the Monte Carlo, good supper and snappy music. On January 22, a masked fancy dross ball will be held in the Turakina Town Hall, with good prizes offered for the best costumer. The music-will be supplied by Ta'e’s Orchestra, for the latter function. MARTON YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB The monthly meeting of the Marton Young Farmers’ Club will be held in the Marton Jockey Club rooms, tomorrow (Friday, January 11) at 8 p.m. The main business will be the final arrangements for the snorts meeting to be held on Saturday, January 19, and the relection of class stewards for the Marton A. and P. Show. A large attendance is requested. MARTON RETAILERS In conformity to the 40-hour week, Marton retail shops will, in future, remain open until 8.45 p.m. on Fiiday nights and close all day Saturday. WELCOME HOME DANCE A welcome home dance to returning servicemen will be. held in the Tutaenul Hall on Tuesday, January 15.
