UNITED STATES’ WIVES IN AUCKLAND
TRANSPORT TO AMERICA THE PROBLEM (PA.) Auckland, Jan. 9 The only consideration delaying the departure of the remaining wives, children and fiancees of American servicemen still in Auckland is transport.
American servicemen in the Pacific have priority, and, therefore, there i~. little likelihood of the position easing u* present. The new arrangements just an:jounced for the entry of dependants of American servicemen into the United States ar.- not expected to affect the priority of those women chose visa applications have already been taken, and to whom visas have been, issued. It is hoped those women will go first when transport becomes available, and. that, subject to the United States authorities agreeing to the system, other - will then go in the order in which their requests for transporta ion are received. It is estimated that more than 1000 marriages with American servicemen have taken place in the Auckland province.
