MARTON BOY KILLED

CAR AND MOTOR TRUCK COLLIDE (P.A.) Palmerston North, Jon. 8 A collision between a motor truck and ear on the Palmerston Nor.hAshhurst highway, this afternoon, resulted in the death of Jack Whale, aged 10 years and 6 months, the son of Mr. R. A. Whale, of Marton.

Mr. and Mrs. Whale and family of three, were just starting out on a holiday, which was to have lasted a fortnight. The parents and one child were in the cab and Jack and hi. brother, aged 12, were in the back, which had been fitted up with a covered frame. The car was driven by Mr. A. S. Moulynox, of New.owji, Wellington, who was accompanied by his wife and grand-daughter. There is some doubt about the cause of the collision, but it was in a locality where smoke from a roadside fire was drifting across the highway. Damage to the vehicles indicated that the ear hit the rear ot lhe lorry, the impact turning the lorry completely round. Jack Whale was precipitated on to the bitumen on his head and was killed instantly. The others escaped injury, as also the occupants of the car.
