CUP, RAILWAY’ FOAL STAKES

(Special). Auckland. Dec. 24. Commencing with the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting, at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. the first of four days’ racing at that centre, a racing and trotting carnival will extend over seven days of the holiday period. The prospects for Auckland Cup Day suggest that it will be the feature of the carnival. It would not be surprising if more records were io go by 1 he board. Decisive winner of the New Zealand Cup, Golden Souvenir will no doubt be the actual favourite for the Auckland Cup. Northern sportsmen who saw the big Riccarton race will be loyal to Chung Chong, who was travelling faster than anything else at the post in that event. Landveyer is expected to go close to improving upon his second of last Boxing Day, and Foxwyn, the 1944 winner, is also In good order to give another bold showing. Even Lou Rosa cannot be ignored. Longsword, Glenfalloch, Mr. Rosa, 1 Sir Bian and Miss Medley are others I likely to be given heavy backing. 1 There are sufficient lightweights to ensure a solid race and this will give , the true stayers a chance. For this | reason Golden Souvenir, Landveyor, Chung Chong and Foxwyn are recbm- I mended in that order.

Most interest will be taken in Balmacara in the Railway Handicap. He is the best northern three-year-old and is a favoured Great Northern ■ Derby candidate.
