VILLIERS STAKES AT RANDWICK
QUEENSLAND “ROGUE ; HAS RUNAWAY WIN Recd. 10 p.m. Sydney, Dec. 23. Bernborough, a six-year-old Queensland horse, had a runaway win in the Villiers Stakes at Randwick yesterday. He carried topweight and came from last at the six furlongs. Until the middle of this year Bernborough’s racing was confined to Toowoomba. He was banned from every other course in Queensland. Six months ago he was bought by a Sydney racing man but the race permit prevented him from racing here until a fortnight ago. The New Zealand-bred filly Gold Taj (Nizami—White Gold), starting at odds on, was defeated in the Gimpcrack Stakes after leading to within half a furlong of the post. Results: Gimcrack Stakes.—Sweet Chime 8.10 (Coutts) 1; Gold Taj 8.10 (Thompson) 2; Tibalina 8.5 (Swinton) 3. Fourteen started: One and three-quarter lengths; one and a-quarter lengths. Time, 62isec. Villiers Stakes.—Bernborough 9.2 (Mulley) 1, Good Idea 8.6 (Parsons) 2, Victory Lad 8.9 (Doon) 3. Fourteen started. Five lengths; three lengths. Time, 1.371.
December Handicap.—Right Royal 7.7 (Hogg) 1, Night beam 9.0 (Weate) 2 War Eagle 8.5 (Fellows) 3. Eight, started. Three lengths; half a neck. Time, 2.61.
