R.S.A. QUEEN CARNIVAL. (0.C.) Sanson, Dec. 23. The Sanson Hall was once more packed for a further function to augment the campaign fund of "Miss Hui Mai” in the R.S.A. Queen Carnival. Visitors were present from Palmerston North, Feilding, Marton, Bulls and other surrounding towns. The function was arranged by the Hui-Mai Football Club, and the smooth running of the evening reflected well on the work of the boys under the capable secretaryship of Mr. J. Coulter. A festive mood was apparent from the outset and the function was a complete success in every way. The lucky Gay Gordons was won by the partners of Mrs. O. Tong and Mr. Vic. Hawkins. Several competitins which have been running were brought to finality during the evening, the winners being: Cigarettes and bouquet, Mr Bill Lawrence. Christmas dinner, Mr. J. Lumsden. Toy Rabbit, Mr. R. J. Titcombe. PERSONAL. Mrs. R. J. Babington, who was injured in a tram accident in Wellington, and, who, upon returning to Sanson, was compelled to enter a private hospital in Feilding, is making excellent progress towards recovery. Mr. W. A. Wheeler, has left for Napier, there to spend the Christmas vacation. Miss Irene Read has returned from Stratford to spend the Holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Read. Miss Jose Scandlyn L at present relieving at the local post office. Mrs. R. M. Masters and Mrs. R. Betley, of Feilding, are, the guests ol Mrs. R. A. B. Harr.s. L.A.C. Edmonds is home on leave from a northern Air Force station with his parents, Mr. and C. J. Edmonds. lbws: Linen bag, Mrs. btaite i, Mrs. Morrison 2, Mrs. E. Early in December the Rangataua W.l. held a successful Paddy’s Market. The stalls and stallholders were: Fancy and plain work, Mesdames Larsen, Gudopp, Shields and Sullivan; sweets, Mesdames Gascott, Snowball, Miss Snowball; cakes, Mrs. Hill; fish pond, Mrs. F. Remus; fruit and vegetables, Mesdames Hall and R. Remus; jumble, Mesdames Pumphry and Mills; "Aunt Sally,” Mr. Larsen; refreshments, Mesdames Murdie, George and Jordan. At the monthly meeting held later in the month, the chair was taken by Mrs. Shields (vicepresident), who also gave the motto. There was a good response to the roll call "A Christmas dinner.” In the competition for an article made with material not costing more than ss, the winners were: Mrs. Shield 1, Mrs. Hall 2, Mrs. Stretton 3; cold sweet competition; Mrs. Shields 1, Mrs. Stretton 2, Mrs. Hall 3; premier flower, Mrs. Frazer. After business was dealt with, members’ children were enteitained at a Christmas parly when about 40 young folk enjoyed games, dancing and singing. Father Christmas attended and presented each child With 6d, a paper hat and sweets. For afternoon tea the children were treated to jellies, cakes and ice cream, and there was a lovely Christmas cake presented by Mrs. Nicol. A part-song by the young folks brought a happy party to a close.
TRIBUTE FROM BOH LERS At the Wanganui East Bowling Ciiib's pavilion on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. B. Clapeott, who attends to the provision of afternoon tea, was congratulated by the president, Mr. R. J. Bell, on her recovery from a recent illness during which she was la hospital inmate. On behalf of members, Mr. Bell made a Christmas presentation to Mrs. Clapeott who, in acknowledging the members’ gesture, wished them the compliments of the season.
