PAHIATUA MEETING
PROSPECTS AT WOODVILLE FIXTURE Providing a full-dress rehearsal for the holiday racing carnival proper, which will commence on Boxing Day, the Pahiatua Racing Club’s fixture at the Woodville racecourse to-day , should hold a good deal of interest for' followers of form. Fields have filled I well/ considering that it will be the third day s racing at Woodville at fortnightly intervals. The higher stakes inat will be offering during the Christmas and New Year racing had th# 1 effect of delaying the appearance oi some of the horses handicapped, but nevertheless there is plenty of mater-1 ial available, as is evidenced by the I fact that the Maiden Race field has I been divided to provide an extra race.: Win-and-place betting will be operated and the first race i s set down for 11.45 ! a.m. The principal event, the Pahiatua ! Handicap, has attracted eight accep- j tors, with Foxcatcher (also engaged | in the open seven furlongs), topweight l with 7.10. The Defoe mare is well placed to mark her appearance in a middle distance event, especially as she was running on at the end of seven furlongs at Otaki. Bay Robe was second to Glenfalloch at Woodville a fortnight ago. Phoenix, Lady Chips and Gay Lena have always impressed as staying hacks, and Voltaire was finishing on in his race at Otaki last Saturday. Main interest in the Eke tahan * Handicap will centre on tne appearance of Typhoon, especially in view of his Manawatu and Wellington Cup engagements. If started here Foxcatcher would be given an excellent chance. Dileas, Colais and Theolateral will have friends, and Silver Note, on the minimum, must be respected. There is not much form as a guide for backers interested in the Juvenile Handicap but Richmond Park is highly regarded and was a winner at the second Napier Park meeting. Argumentative should improve on her Woodville displays. The following may appeal;— Mangahao Highweight.—Blue Title, Rampant. Griffin. Ist Maiden Race.—Balcherrie, Yasda, Magic Art. Konini Hack.—Blue Chips, Yarrow, Astrope. Pahiatua Handicap.—Foxcatcher, Bay Robe. Gay Lena.
