BRITISH PROVOST ARRESTED
CHIEF OF ARMY POLICE IN BERLIN OFFICER OF FORMER STH ARMY Reed. 6.15 p.m. London, Dec. 20. The British authorities, on Decern-1 ber 15, arrested the Deputy-Provost Marshall, Lieut.-Colonel T. O. Irvine, the “number one policeman of Berlin,” says the “Daily Mail’s” correspondent. The charges against Irvine, who is ; confined under close arrest in his pri--1 vate quarters in the British zone, have not yet disclosed. Army, who served 'with distinction in the desert. He is [one of the best known and most popular officers of the Berlin garrison and I has commanded for the last five months, the British military police lorce in Beilin, leading all the lajqr raids on Ihe notorious Grrrfian mack market in the Tiergarten. Irvine, on December 15, used tanks and armoured cars, manned by Hussars, in a round-up which led to many important arrests.
