Mrs. K. Gorsbie and Miss R. Corsbie, of Auckland, are visiting Wanganui. Miss Mulvihill, Wanganui, is visiting Auckland for the school holidays. Miss Sharpe, of the Girls' College teaching staff, has left for Rotorua. Miss !•’. Paul, Auckland, is visiting Wanganui and is lhe guest of Mrs. J. M. Hussey, St. John's Hill. Miss E. J. D. Turner, of Marton, and formerly of Wanganui, is vuiting Mrs. A. L. Turner, Fitzherberc Avenue, Palmerston North. Mr. R. O. Matcalfe, of the China Inland Mission, with his wife and trree children arrived at Whenaupau on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Metcalfe and their eldest child were captured at Hongkong in 1941. The two younger children were born in internment camps. ENGAGEMENTS Loveridge—Young.— The engagement is announced of Elsie Helen, youngest daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. J. W. At a gathering of a few close friends held on Saturday evening at the Hunter home, Dr. Hunter was farewelled and presented with a gift of a filled envelop?. N. Giris For Far East New Zealand girls are to go to China and Japan as workers with the Y.W.C.A. Welfare Service. Miss Betty Lorimer has arrived at Hongkong wnere she has established a base for servicewomen, and Miss Phylks Hindle has written that she will be accompanying Miss Muriel Wilson to Japan, wnere Miss Jean Begg will plan for the establishment di clubs lor servicewomen attached to the Allied armies of occupation. Another New Zealand worker, Miss Lorna Blundell, has been transferred from Bengal to the Y.W.C.A. Service Club in Singapore.

A Fine Gesture District Health Nurse W. W. McGref.or, Pipiriki, who is among those chosen by C.0.R.5.0. to go to Greece, and was presented with a cheque by the settlers has handed the money to the Red Cross specially for the relief of the people of Greece. As she did not wish to accept the gift for herself, she asked that it be a freewill offeting for those wllo wished to contribute for this purpose. Missionary Returns Miss E. Arnold, a missionary from India, has returned .0 Wanganui on a six months' furlough after being stationed in Bengal, where she has had strenuous work in connection with the famine there. Miss Arnold went to India in 1922 and has been home on furlough several times during the period of years. At present she is staying with her brother in Wanganui Ea.t and later will spend some time at Ka Iwt with her sister, Miss May Arnolji, who is teaching in the Waikato district and will arrive in Wanganui shortly for the holidays. Farewell Party So that Mrs. E. Crosby’s friends might wish her au revoir before her departure from Wanganui to reside in Auckland, an afternoon tea party arranged by Mrs. F. C. Jannings and Mrs. F. A. Bates, was held in the D.I.C. Tearoom recently. Following afternoon lea Mrs. A. Crawford, in a brief speech, said what a good friend and neighbour Mrs. Crosby had been, and spoke of her kindliness anti sincerity. She wished them luck fn their future home. Mrs. B. Blake also snoke. In replv Mrs. Crosby thanked a'U for the verv happy gathering and said she had made many delightful friendships during her residence 01 close on 17 years in Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. -Crosby leave to-day en route to the northern city. Mr. Ctfsby, who was an inspector of schools, recently retired. Y.W.C.A. Mothers’ Club At the December meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Mothers’ Club, Mr. J. D. Summerell, president, was in the chai. Following routine business, members enjoyed a programme of interesting and amusing competitions, also solo items contributed by Mesanames Mcßride, Westwood, and Foster. Opportunity was taken to farewell Miss R. Johnstone, who received a gay shoulder spray. Members provided a nice afternoon tea, Mesdames Scott and Walton acting as hostesses. An enjoyable afternoon concluded by all joining in singing Christmas carols, followed by an exchange of felicitous greetings.
