DUBLIN STREET BRIDGE

Sir, —I notice that the City Council is to spend money on painting the Dublin Street Bridge. Is there any chance of having some of it spent on the roadway? Most people are aware that the streets and footpaths of the city generally are in a bad way, but I venture to suggest that no street can compare with the bit of tar sealing over the Dublin Street Bridge.— I am, etc., "EAST TOWN CYCLIST.” December 19, 1945. Sir, —I would like the members of the Works Committee to use cycles and try the ride over the Dublin Street Bridge. It is a nightmare, and something ought to be done about it • —I am. etc., "MOTHER OF COLLEGE GIRL.” December 19, 1945. Sir—The roadway along the tramlines on the Dublin Street bridge is in a shocking state of repair, and is a definite menace to all vehicular traffic. Every now and again the Tramways Department sends a lorry and a couple of men along to sprinkle a bit of hot mix in some of the holes. Within a few days this has all broken away again and bigger holes than ever appear. Within the past week I have seen four cyclists thrown off their machines through the wheels getting jammed in the ruts. Some major accident on this roadway may bring the authorities to their senses. —I am, etc., “CITIZEN.”
