CITY REVALUATION

PROMISED FOR 1947-48 The Minister in Charge of the Valuation Department (Mr. Skinner) and the Valuer-General had both given an assurance that a revaluation of the City of Wanganui would be completed in time for the 1947-48 rating year said the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, at the monthly meeting last night of the City Council. The Mayor reported on a deputation which waited on the Minister and Ute Valuer-General, Mr. Walters, 1 in Wellington recently. The appoint- yment was made bv Mr. J. B. F. Cotterill, M.P. “We pressed the case for a revaluation as early as possible,” the Mayor added. “The Valuer-General was surprised at the way in which Wanganui has been progressively devalued." It was pointed out, however, that a revaluation of the city would mean a special staff neing maintained in the field at Wanganui for several months. After the deputation had pressed Wanganui's claims, the Minister gave an assurance that while he regretted that the revaluation could not be completed in time for the 1946-47 financial year, it would be done before 1947-48. The deputation consisted of the Mayor and Crs. G. P. Hawkins, E. W. Merewether, and W. S. Rennie, and the town clerk. Mr. C. R. White.
