GRANT FOR SWIMMING BATHS AT GIRTS’ COLLEGE “This is something beyond the scope of lhe council—we have no newer to make a grant," said the ed Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, when an appeal for a grant toward the cost of swimming baths at the new Wanganui Girls’ College, work on which is expected to s.art .next year, was before the City Council at its monthly meeting last night. Cr. E. W. Merewether said tins opened a big question. It was beyond the jurisdiction of the council to make a grant in a case such as this. "If we did do anything it would open the way to hundreds of other requests,” he added. On a majority vote, the council decided to receive lhe loiter.
