OBITUARY
MR. H. F. TILLEY, WANGANUI NOTED RUGBY PLAYER, BOWIJCR AND OARSMAN The death occurred yesterday, after a brief illness, of Mr. Harry Francis Tilley, one of Wanganui’s outstanding all-round sportsman of more than 4u years ago. He was in his 70th year. Born in Melbourne, Mr. Tilley came to New Zealand with his parents when an infant, and resided for 10 years in Napier. The family moved lo Wanganui in 1885, and on leaving school, Mr. Tilley joined the the employ of Ihe legal firm of Messrs. Fitherbert and Marshall, now Marshall, Izard and Wilson, and remained with them until his death. Mr. Tilley represented Wanganui at Rugby for several seasons, and was a noted goal kicker. He played for the Wanganui Rugby Football Club. WJien his active playing days were over he took a full part in the administrative side of the game, and was a Rugby referee for a long period. He also acted as sole selector to the Wanganui Rugby Union. As an oarsman, Mr. Tilley was a valued member of the Wanganui Rowing Club, and represented it at championship regattas with distinct success in senior crews. For about 30 years he was a member of the Wanganui Bowling Club, and had represented New Zealand at bowls against both EnglapcV and Australia. In 1920 Mr. Tilley was a meniri her of Mr. A. P. London’s team whld won the New Zealand rinks champlol ship. He was also selected to reprl sent New Zealand on a bowling tour of England but did not make the trip. As a member of the Wanganrt Bowling Club he won the singles arij pairs championship on many occasions. Mr. Tilley’s wife predeceased him 11 months ago. He is survived by twn sons, Messrs. Arthur Tilley (Wanganui) and Leslie (Christchurch).
