MR. JORDAN WELCOMED

LABOUR PARTY AND TRADE UNION MOVEMENT ‘

Nearly 300 members of branches of the Labour Party in the city and the trade union movement assembled in the Harmony Hall on Saturday night to meet Mr. W. J. Jordan. High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, who is visiting Wanganui. Mr. Jordan was welcomed by the Mayor. Hon. W. J. Rogers, and Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P. A spray was presented to Mrs. Jordan by Mrs. Cotterill. In an informal talk, Mr. Jordan related his experiences in London during the war period and referred to many New’ Zealand soldiers, sailors and airmen whom) he haH met there. He paid a warm tribute to the valour shown by New Zealand air crews setting off on operational flights over enemy territory. Mr. Jordan also spoke of the trade union movement in Great Britain. Later, he took the opportunity of meeting many people attending the gathering. PARENTS OF V.C. VISITED. Mr and Mrs. Jordan, yesterday afternoon, paid a visit to the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. Ward, parents of the late Jimmie Ward, V.C. The High Commissioner and Mrs. Jordan also called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Deere, parents of Wing-Commander Alan Deere, D.F.C. and Bar.
