MARTON JOCKEY CLUB’S MEMBERSHIP

With the nomination of six members and the election of a further six, the membership of the Marton Jockey Club has entered its fifth century, the total being 411. At a recent committee meeting the following were elected as members:— Messrs Sidney R. Hammond (Leedstown). Cyril S. Hammond (Taihape), John Watt (Marton), R. J. Managh (Halcombe), A. Henwood (Hunterville) and Desmond Orton (Makirikiri).

A number of alterations and improvements, as suggested by the course committee, are now 411 hand and should be appreciated by the general public. The following officials were appointed for the three day’s racing on January 1,2 and 12:—Placed horses, Messrs V. Nicholls, W. R. Duncan, H. T. Whale and S. R. Hammond; "all clear” steward, Mr. L. Hammond; starter’s steward, Mr. K. McK. Duncan; birdcage stewards, Messrs A. T. Gatrell and L. K. Mcßeth; totalisator steward, Mr. K. R. Scoon; entertainment steward, Mr. A. H. Marshall; jockeys’ room, Mr. W. R. Duncan; hurdles stewards, Messrs H. G. Briant and H. W. Lampp; broadcasting steward. Mr. C. F. McManaway; gate stewards, Messrs F. R. H. Brice, A. W. Marshall, L. Hammond, H. T. Whale and V. Nicholls.

The question of erecting a cover over the entrance gates was referred to the course committee with power to act.
